AfD leader calls on Ukrainians in Germany to return to Ukraine

Alice Weidel, leader of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany party, called on Ukrainians living in Germany to return to Ukraine, especially men of military age. Anadolu Agency reports.

Statement on social benefits

In an interview with the Austrian TV channel AUF1, Weidel criticized the financial burden of social benefits for Ukrainians in Germany. According to her, more than one million Ukrainians in the country receive social assistance, and this situation is no longer financially sustainable.

Weidel also stated that young Ukrainian men of military age, whom she estimated at hundreds of thousands, should return to Ukraine.

Position on Syrian citizens

The politician also advocated for Syrian citizens residing in Germany to return to Syria after the grounds for their protection cease to exist. She stated that the right to asylum is temporary and that people should return to their countries after such grounds disappear, rather than become naturalized.

According to Weidel, a government led by AfD would expect Syrians to return to Syria and would also review cases of their naturalization to verify compliance with the relevant criteria.
