Marine Le Pen will be able to run in the 2027 French presidential election
The Paris Court of Appeals upheld the conviction of French far-right leader Marine Le Pen in a case involving the misuse of EU funds, but reduced the length of her ban on running for office. This opens the door for her to run in the 2027 presidential election.
The court sentenced Le Pen to three years in prison, two of which are suspended, and the remaining year she will serve under electronic monitoring while wearing an ankle monitor. She is also barred from holding elected office for 15 months, which will not prevent her from running in the 2027 presidential election.
At the same time, wearing an electronic ankle monitor for a year could complicate her election campaign.
