Mezola invited the Pope to address the European Parliament
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola expressed her support for Pope Leo and invited him to address the members of the European Parliament.
The invitation came amid criticism of the Pontiff by U.S. President Donald Trump.
She mentioned this in a post on social media platform X.
“Pope Leo XIV is not only the shepherd of the Roman Catholic flock around the world, but also a symbol of moral courage and clarity at a time when such guiding lights are needed more than ever,” Metsola wrote.
She emphasized that the Pope’s voice “is one that Europeans of all faiths—and atheists—listen to, value, and respect.”
On behalf of the European Parliament, she reached out to the Holy See to confirm the invitation for the Pope to address the plenary session.
“We hope to welcome him in the near future and hear his message for Europe,” Metsola concluded.
