Russia’s Ministry of Justice declares Human Rights Watch an “undesirable organization”

The Russian Ministry of Justice has added the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) to its list of “undesirable organizations.”

Earlier, in April 2022, Roskomnadzor restricted access to the organization’s website within Russia.

Human Rights Watch is an international nonprofit organization headquartered in New York that works to protect human rights in more than 70 countries. The organization monitors, investigates, and documents human rights violations.

The Supreme Court of Russia has previously recognized the American legal entity Anti-Corruption Foundation Inc. (the Anti-Corruption Foundation, or ACF) as a terrorist organization. In 2021, a Russian court had already declared the ACF and Navalny’s “Headquarters” extremist organizations.
