Mitsotakis unveils economic package in Greece

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has presented a multi-year package of economic measures, which he called a programme of “progress and prosperity.” He stated this in Thessaloniki during the opening of the 90th Thessaloniki International Fair.

Speech in Thessaloniki

Mitsotakis delivered his speech on September 5 at the Ioannis Vellidis Conference Centre. He opened the Thessaloniki International Fair for the eighth time as head of government. The event, being held for the 90th time this year, is described by Balkan Insight as the country’s most important political event of the year.

Mitsotakis said that his government had achieved stabilisation and progress in the economy after a prolonged period of fiscal crisis. At the same time, he acknowledged that problems remain that need to be corrected. According to him, the next step should be to extend the positive results to all households.

Criticism of the package

The prime minister presented the economic programme in the context of these statements. Critics of the government package believe that the proposed measures do not address the root causes of Greece’s economic difficulties. The publication also notes that Mitsotakis’s speech was likely aimed at the parliamentary elections in spring 2027.
