Moldova will purchase systems for detecting and intercepting drones
With financial support from the European Union, the Moldovan Ministry of Defense will acquire new air target detection systems, including equipment for intercepting drones.
According to Valeriu Miji, State Secretary of the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, 34 incidents involving drones and ballistic missiles have been recorded in the country’s airspace.
The official stated that the procurements will be carried out with the support of the European Peace Fund as part of a 120 million euro aid package approved by the Council of the European Union on July 13.
In addition, Moldova is cooperating with NATO as part of the Defense Capabilities Building (DCB) initiative, which aims to develop capabilities to counter drones.
The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the modernization of security systems is important not only for the military but also for the border police, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and agencies responsible for cybersecurity.
