A new border crossing will open on the border with Romania later this year

In Zakarpattia, preparations are nearing completion for the launch of the new “Bila Tserkva–Sighişoara” international border crossing on the Ukrainian-Romanian border.

Currently, experts are checking the readiness of the infrastructure and necessary facilities. It is expected that once the crossing opens, crossing the border will become more convenient for residents of border regions and travelers.

According to customs authorities, a government commission has already begun inspecting the facility. Its task is to assess whether the first phase of construction is ready for passenger car traffic.

In effect, this is the final stage of preparation before the launch of the new border crossing.

"Bila Tserkva–Sighişoara" is set to become another road crossing between Ukraine and Romania. Its opening is expected to relieve congestion at other border crossings, improve logistics, and simplify travel for residents of border regions.

What Has Been Done So Far

The main infrastructure at the site has already been completed. Specifically, an access road has been built, the riverbank has been reinforced, lighting has been installed, and traffic lanes, inspection areas, and workstations for customs officers and border guards have been set up.

At the same time, the Transcarpathian Customs Office and the State Border Guard Service are refining vehicle clearance procedures to make border crossings as fast as possible.

What the New Border Crossing Will Be Like

Once it opens, the border crossing will operate 24 hours a day.

According to customs officials, six lanes have been set up for passenger cars, two for buses, and another six for freight vehicles.

It is expected that up to 700 passenger cars, about 60 buses, and up to 400 trucks will be able to pass through the new crossing daily.

This was reported with reference to the Transcarpathian Customs Office.

Queues have grown at Ukraine’s western border: passenger traffic has exceeded 730,000.

As a reminder, queues have formed at the border with Poland in Lviv Oblast.

Twelve-hour lines have formed at the border with Poland due to an increase in passenger traffic.

Ukraine has modernized four border crossing points on the border with Moldova.
