Two drones were spotted flying over a military base in Germany
Two drones were spotted late Thursday evening over a Bundeswehr military base in Mechernich, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, according to NDTV World, citing AFP.
According to a spokesperson for the German Armed Forces, the drones were spotted around 10:00 p.m., or 8:00 p.m. GMT. The base is located approximately 35 kilometers from the border with Belgium. After the presence of the drones was confirmed, military police were called in, and the case was handed over to the Eiskirchen police, who are conducting an investigation.
German media reported that the facility in Mechernich houses a high-security underground storage facility for military equipment and spare parts. Personnel responsible for maintaining the U.S. Patriot air defense systems are also stationed there.

The incident occurred two days after a drone carrying explosives was discovered near the runway at Leipzig/Halle Airport. According to German media reports, it was found near several Ukrainian An-124 cargo planes. The airport serves as a civilian cargo hub and a NATO logistics center.
German authorities have not publicly blamed other countries for the incident. At the same time, some lawmakers have accused Russia. The Russian Embassy—representing the aggressor state—in Berlin called the incident in Leipzig a “fabricated provocation” and stated that the accusations against Moscow are unsubstantiated.
