Yemen’s National Resistance accuses IRGC of directing Houthi offensive — Asharq Al-Awsat
In Yemen, the National Resistance forces, led by Presidential Leadership Council member Tareq Saleh, said they had lost significant positions on the west coast and accused Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of directly supporting and directing the Houthi offensive. As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, the group’s statement concerns fighting that continued from August 9 to September 10.
According to the National Resistance, more than 500 of its fighters were killed in the clashes, while nearly 1,500 others were wounded. Representatives of the group also claimed that more than 1,000 Houthis were killed and thousands wounded. These figures are an estimate by one of the parties to the conflict.
Loss of positions on the coast
The statement said that the Houthis advanced along Yemen’s west coast and took control of Hays, Al-Khawkhah, Mocha and its port. According to the National Resistance, they also extended control over the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, Mayyun Island and other Yemeni islands in the southern part of the Red Sea.

Tareq Saleh’s forces described these battles as among the fiercest in their confrontation with the Houthis. According to their account, the offensive began with intensive missile strikes, drone attacks and explosive-laden boats, and later spread to the areas of Hays, Al-Qadahah, Maqbana and Al-Barah.
Claims of Iranian support
The National Resistance claims that the Houthis deployed a significant number of fighters and reinforcements from various directions in an attempt to encircle the defensive forces. The group linked the Houthis’ ability to conduct simultaneous operations and mobilize reinforcements to alleged direct support from IRGC personnel and specialists, as well as its regional allies.
The National Resistance leadership said it had decided to redeploy troops to new defensive lines in order to preserve combat capability and prevent encirclement. The statement also noted support from Saudi Arabia, the Giants Brigades, the National Shield forces and tribal volunteers.
