Navrotsky Could Help Ukraine with Patriot Missiles, Says Sikorsky
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski stated that President Karol Nawrocki could use his special relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump to help Ukraine. Specifically, this refers to the issue of supplying Kyiv with hard-to-find missiles for the Patriot air defense systems.
The host asked the Polish foreign minister about the possibility of further transfers to Ukraine of missiles for the Patriot systems, which are currently in critically short supply.
In response, Sikorski offered a figurative example:
“Well, if a neighbor’s house is on fire and we have a bucket of water, it’s good to help the neighbor,” the minister said.
At the same time, he acknowledged that the decision to transfer the missiles is a difficult one, since there are objectively not enough of them even to meet the needs of allies.
“It’s always a difficult decision because there are objectively too few of these missiles, while the Russians are producing 100–120 missiles (per month),” Sikorski noted.
However, the Polish minister did not directly answer whether Poland should transfer some of its Patriot missiles to Ukraine right now.
Sikorski emphasized that the final decision on this matter does not rest with him.
“It’s not my decision. On this matter, the president has a special relationship with the United States, and this is an American initiative,” stated the Polish foreign minister.
In this way, Sikorski effectively drew attention to Karol Nawrocki’s special ties with Donald Trump, which could be used to advance the issue of additional military aid to Ukraine.
The Polish foreign minister also emphasized that Ukraine plays an important role in Poland’s security, as it deters Russian aggression.
“Ukraine is an effective ally; it defends our border against Putin’s tanks. And these missiles would destroy Russian missiles flying toward cities. So these are not easy decisions,” Sikorski concluded.
According to him, the issue of transferring Patriot missiles to Ukraine requires consideration of both Poland’s own defense needs and the necessity of protecting Ukrainian cities from Russian attacks.
Sikorski made these remarks during an appearance on Polsat News.
With the support of its allies and using a loan from the European Union, Ukraine is signing contracts to supply approximately 1,000 missiles for the U.S. Patriot air defense systems. Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara announced this at a meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues for Ukraine.
The United Kingdom is allocating 100 million pounds to the PURL program to provide Ukraine with missiles for the Patriot systems and other air defense equipment as early as this winter.
