At the UN, Navrotsky called on countries to mount a joint response to Russia's actions
Polish President Karol Nawrocki called on the international community to mount a decisive, consistent, and united response to Russia’s actions, as it continues its war against Ukraine and conducts hybrid operations in Europe.
According to Nawrocki, Russia is attempting to subjugate neighboring Ukraine and destabilize the entire region, which contradicts the principles of the UN Charter.
He noted that Moscow is using open aggression, hybrid operations, subversion, and sabotage to destabilize Europe.
“Russia is displaying the very same imperial arrogance that in the past led to the unimaginable suffering and tragedies of the two world wars,” Navrotsky emphasized.
The Polish president also stated that Russia, guided by an “imperial and neocolonial worldview,” is attempting to impose its will on others and is calling into question the right of peoples to determine their own destiny.
The Polish head of state stressed the importance of restoring the primacy of international law and strengthening a system in which states adhere to established rules.
According to Navrotsky, Poland understands the consequences of Russian colonialism and imperialism particularly well.
“As Russia’s neighbor, we do not seek confrontation with it. We are strengthening our alliances, developing our military, and modernizing it not to wage war, but to prevent it,” the Polish president stated.
He emphasized that Poland consistently views NATO as the guarantor of European security.
Karol Nawrocki separately drew attention to the scale of Russia’s hybrid war against European states.
In his view, it includes sabotage, cyberattacks, and destabilization operations, in particular an artificially created migration crisis.
“We are not dealing with isolated incidents, but with a continuous, well-thought-out strategy,” the Polish leader stated.
Navrotsky emphasized that the response to such actions must be “decisive, consistent, and also joint.”
The context for the Polish president’s statements included, in particular, reports of a Russian military helicopter violating Polish airspace on September 23.
During his speech at the UN, Karol Nawrocki also stated that Poland seeks permanent participation in the G20 and could represent Central Europe in this forum.
“Poland will be the voice of this region as a country that understands both the challenges of development and the importance of stable rules of the game in the international economy,” said Nawrocki.
Thus, in his address to the UN, Karol Nawrocki focused on countering Russian aggression and hybrid threats, NATO’s role in ensuring European security, and Poland’s desire to strengthen its role in international forums.
The Polish leader made these remarks during the general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23.
As a reminder, leaders of several Eastern European countries used their addresses at the UN General Assembly to publicly oppose Moscow’s policies. They also portrayed the war in Ukraine as a threat to international peace and security, according to CNN.
In Turkey, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, during his address to the UN General Assembly, called for reform of the UN Security Council. He proposed ensuring fair representation of all regions of the world and abolishing the veto power of the Security Council’s permanent members.
