Norway and the United Kingdom are considering a joint procurement of up to 30 new patrol boats for their coast guard needs.

This was reported by NRK.

According to the Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency (Forsvarsmateriell), the vessels in question are up to 24 meters long and have a capacity of up to 60 tons, capable of operating autonomously for several days.

The boats are planned to be used for transporting personnel and equipment in challenging conditions—both on the open sea and in shallow waters near the coast.

“The goal is to acquire capabilities that will provide better speed, endurance, survivability, and maneuverability than existing vessels,” the agency noted.

Currently, the parties are reviewing market proposals and determining the optimal procurement options.

Norwegian Defense Minister Ture O. Sandvik emphasized that the joint project will strengthen security cooperation between the two countries.

“By developing joint capabilities for coastal operations, we are strengthening our ability to act together in the North Atlantic and the High North,” he noted.

The Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Finland have initiated the creation of a financial mechanism for joint procurement of defense products, which they plan to launch by 2027.

As a reminder, Starmer will meet with Zelenskyy to discuss support for Ukraine.

Additionally, Ukraine is launching the A1 military AI center to develop cutting-edge technologies for the front lines.
