Tensions at the border
The incident occurred amid rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that the country had carried out precision air and drone strikes at ten locations in Afghanistan.
According to Tarar, the strikes were a response to drones launched from the territory of the neighboring country. Pakistani sources claimed that the previous day, eight drones launched from Afghanistan entered Pakistan’s airspace near the border in the Torkham and Kohat areas, after which they were shot down.
On September 21, Pakistan also reported airstrikes in an area bordering Afghanistan, calling them a response to recent terrorist attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Pakistani authorities then said that more than 28 militants had been eliminated.
