The Moldovan Parliament plans to abolish the requirement to translate laws into Russian

The Moldovan Parliament is considering amendments to its rules of procedure that would require the use of Romanian as the sole official language in legislative proceedings.

This was reported by TVR Moldova.

If the document is adopted, the parliament will no longer be required to translate draft laws into Russian before their publication.

The author of the initiative, MP Igor Talmazan, explained that the current rule causes delays, as documents cannot be published without a Russian version.

According to him, a shortage of translators and a large volume of amendments often complicate and slow down the decision-making process.

At the same time, translation into other languages—including Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, and Gagauz—will remain possible, but only after the bills have been reviewed.

The idea is also supported by some opposition representatives, who emphasize that this will not restrict the rights of national minorities to access information.

Moldovahas declared its readiness to join the coalition of the resolute.

Moldova has declared a state of emergency in the energy sector due to Russian strikes on Ukraine.
