The first tranche of military aid to Ukraine under the EU’s €90 billion loan is planned to be used to purchase Ukrainian-made drones.

According to a European Truth correspondent in Brussels, European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius made this statement at a meeting of the European Parliament’s Committee on Security and Defense on April 15.

The first funds to be allocated to support the Ukrainian army under the €90 billion EU loan will be spent on Ukrainian-made drones.

“For 2026, Ukraine has requested defense aid totaling 28.3 billion euros. The first supply plan focuses on drones from Ukraine’s cutting-edge defense industry,” Kubilius said.

He clarified that regarding future supply plans, the EU “expects greater involvement from the European defense industry.”
