Abu Dhabi Police warn drivers after UAE crash injures five people
Abu Dhabi Police in the UAE released a video of a series of crashes on the emirate’s main road and urged drivers not to stop in traffic lanes after an accident. Seven vehicles were damaged in the collisions, and five people were injured.
As The National reports, the crashes began after one driver collided with a pickup truck that had overturned on the highway. Other motorists slowed down or stopped to look at the accident scene. A group of young drivers got out of their cars in an attempt to warn approaching traffic.

The driver of a white Land Cruiser stopped the vehicle across a lane, apparently to protect people who were on the road. A Nissan Patrol then crashed into the rear of the Land Cruiser.
According to Brigadier Musallam Al Junaibi, director of traffic violation fine collection at the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Police Department, four people, including the Land Cruiser driver, sustained minor injuries. The Nissan Patrol driver suffered moderate injuries. All passengers involved in the incident were later discharged from hospital.

Al Junaibi noted that if the Nissan had collided with the Land Cruiser’s driver-side door rather than its rear, the consequences for the SUV driver would likely have been fatal.
Police advice
Police said the actions of drivers who tried to warn other road users were well-intentioned. At the same time, law enforcement stressed that stopping to help on a highway can create additional danger. Police assessed that both subsequent crashes occurred because drivers were distracted.
Law enforcement urged those involved in an accident, if possible, to move their vehicle to the nearest exit or another safe location rather than leaving it in a traffic lane. If the car cannot be moved, drivers were advised to call the Command and Control Centre on 999 and wait for help in a safe place.
