Poland is ready to join Ukraine in the production of missiles for the Patriot system
Poland has proposed to the U.S. that it establish a joint production facility with Ukraine on its territory to manufacture missiles for the Patriot air defense systems. Warsaw views such a facility as a secure location for developing defense cooperation.
Polish Deputy Minister of National Defense Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarniecka made this statement during a visit to Washington.
Sobkowiak-Czarniecka stated that “the idea is for this production to take place in a secure location.”
“The proposal I made today on behalf of Poland takes into account certain concerns on the American side. We have proposed that this be a trilateral cooperation—between the United States, Ukraine, and Poland—since the goal is to ensure the security of this production so that it takes place in a secure location,” she said.
Poland’s Deputy Minister of National Defense explained that the initiative is a response to a statement by Trump, who announced during the NATO summit that he was ready to consider the possibility of producing components for Patriot systems in cooperation with Ukraine.
She emphasized that Patriot missiles are among the most sought-after types of weaponry in the world, which is why Poland is eager to join in their joint production, according to PAP.
As a reminder, on July 22, Zelenskyy met with U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker and Lieutenant General Curtis Bazzard, commander of NATO’s Special Mission for Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine. During the meeting, they primarily discussed increasing the supply of interceptors for the Patriot system under the PURL program.
The American defense contractor Lockheed Martin has announced the development of a new, more affordable interceptor for the Patriot air defense systems. In this way, the U.S. military is seeking cheaper ways to combat drones and missiles.
