Polish authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the departure of former Prosecutor General and Minister of Justice Zbigniew Ziobro from Hungary to the United States, despite the fact that investigations into him are ongoing.
This was stated by Polish government official Marcin Bosacki, as quoted by The Guardian.
According to him, Warsaw is counting on serious negotiations with the American side to determine how Ziobro ended up in the U.S., despite Washington’s earlier assurances that he would not be accepted.
The Polish prosecutor’s office is also conducting a separate investigation to determine whether anyone helped the former official evade responsibility and obstruct the investigation.
In addition, prosecutors have sent a request to the U.S. regarding the possible issuance of U.S. visas to Ziobro and his former deputy, Marcin Romanowski, who was also in Hungary.
If the information is confirmed, Poland may initiate extradition proceedings, although it acknowledges that this process could be lengthy and complex.
Former Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro stated that he is currently in the United States. In Poland, he is wanted in connection with cases involving the possible misuse of public funds and the use of the Pegasus spyware against political opponents.
Nine U.S. and Canadian citizens who illegally entered the grounds of the former Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau have been detained in Poland.
