Poland has reported an increase in Russian aircraft activity near its borders
For three consecutive days, Russian aircraft attempted to conduct surveillance of Poland’s air defense system. Polish Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that Russia’s activity near the country’s airspace has intensified.
“Three aircraft attempted to conduct surveillance of Poland’s air defense system for three consecutive days. This indicates a gradual escalation by Russia,” he said.
The minister emphasized that Poland maintains a constant exchange of information with Ukraine regarding the air situation. According to him, despite the political disputes of recent weeks, cooperation between the militaries of the two countries remains effective, and no disruptions in communication have been recorded.
According to the Polish Deputy Prime Minister, one of the main topics of the meeting was Russia’s possible actions aimed at escalating the hybrid war.
“One of the topics of today’s meeting was the threat from Russia in the form of provocations and the escalation of hybrid warfare—that is, actions such as GPS jamming, various acts of sabotage, and various drone provocations, which may also involve Ukrainian aircraft captured or intercepted by Russia in recent weeks as a result of Ukraine’s intensive efforts to destroy Russia’s critical infrastructure,” Kosiniak-Kamysh noted.
He emphasized that such drones could be used by Russia for provocations against Poland, the Baltic states, Finland, and Romania.
In this regard, according to the minister, the Polish Army, Border Guard, police, and intelligence services are coordinating their actions with one another and with allies on NATO’s eastern flank. He added that all countries in the region are stepping up their preparedness for possible incidents.
Separately, the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense urged citizens to take a critical approach to information circulating in the media, particularly that aimed at sowing discord between Poles and Ukrainians.
“We won’t be able to cope if this Russian propaganda is spread by Poles—that is, by us ourselves. That is when a tremendous danger arises, and that is why I urge everyone to verify their sources. We will fight against disinformation and false reports spread to sow anxiety and undermine trust in state institutions, and right now, above all, to drive a wedge between us and the Ukrainians,” Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized.
In this context, he believes that the Ukrainian authorities’ decision to promptly grant permits for search and exhumation operations “will also help calm the situation” in Polish-Ukrainian relations.
He also stressed the need for Poland to continue supporting Ukraine, which has been at war and has suffered the heaviest barrage of ballistic and cruise missiles in recent weeks since the start of the war.
He made these remarks on Tuesday during a press conference in Warsaw following a government meeting on security issues, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.
