South African Embassy in Seoul Marks International Nelson Mandela Day
The Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Seoul marked International Nelson Mandela Day with an event calling for community service. The event was dedicated to the legacy of the former South African president in matters of social justice and service to society.

The event was held jointly with the Kim Dae-jung Presidential Library and Museum. Residents of Eden I Ville, a children's home in Seoul, took part. The Korea Herald reports on the event.
South African Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Sindiswa Mququ said that the meeting in Seoul was intended to continue Nelson Mandela's commitment to humanity and support for people facing poverty and hardship. She also thanked Eden I Ville for its interest in South Africa and its national symbol.

“67 Minutes” Campaign
International Nelson Mandela Day is observed annually on July 18, his birthday. The UN General Assembly established the commemorative date in 2009, recognizing Mandela's contribution to peace and freedom.
One of the central elements of the observance is the “67 Minutes” campaign, which calls on people to devote at least 67 minutes to community service. This symbolizes Mandela's 67 years of public activity and his struggle for social justice. According to Mququ, the theme of International Nelson Mandela Day in 2026 is his call to make the world a better place for everyone, especially poor, vulnerable and marginalized people.
