Prince William to represent King Charles at King Harald V’s funeral in Norway
William, Prince of Wales, will represent King Charles at the funeral of Norway’s King Harald V, which will take place on September 9 at Oslo Cathedral. Buckingham Palace announced this, The Guardian World reports.

William will be joined at the ceremony by his aunt, Princess Anne. She will attend the funeral in a personal capacity, as she is the godmother of Norway’s new King Haakon VIII.
Under established practice, the British monarch does not attend the funerals of other heads of state. Therefore, Charles will be represented at the ceremony by his eldest son and heir to the throne, William.

Death of King Harald V
King Harald V died on August 28 at the age of 89. He ruled Norway for 35 years. Following his death, the country saw a broad outpouring of grief, while the late monarch was remembered as a people’s king known for his warm, informal style and sense of humour.
The late monarch’s widow, Sonja, who now holds the title of queen mother, will also attend the funeral. After being informed of Harald’s death, Charles called him a dear cousin, close relative and friend, and noted his dedication to service, kindness, compassion and sense of duty.
Queen Elizabeth II and Harald V were second cousins: their shared great-grandparents were King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. In April 2025, William already represented his father at the funeral of Pope Francis at the Vatican.
