Labour productivity in Latvia rose by 3.4% per hours worked
In Latvia, labour productivity per hours worked increased by 3.4% year on year in the second quarter of 2026. This was the third-highest figure among European Union countries after Slovenia and Denmark, LSM English reports.
EU figures
On average across the EU, labour productivity in the second quarter of 2026 increased by 0.9% per employed person and by 0.8% per hour worked compared with the same quarter of 2025. In the first quarter of 2026, both indicators rose by 0.4% year on year.
The indicator combines gross domestic product and employment data and reflects the real volume of output per employed person or per hour worked.

Leaders and declines
In terms of labour productivity per employed person, the largest increase was recorded in Slovenia, at 4.5%. Denmark followed with 3.6%, and Lithuania with 3.5%. Declines under this criterion were recorded only in Ireland, by 1%, Romania, by 0.8%, and Italy, by 0.4%.
Per hours worked, Slovenia also posted the highest increase, at 5.8%, followed by Denmark at 3.5% and Latvia at 3.4%. The indicator declined in five EU countries, most notably in Romania by 1.2%, Czechia by 0.8%, and Portugal by 0.5%. It remained unchanged in Ireland.
