PTI calls on Pakistan’s government to try imposing governor’s rule — Dawn

Naeem Haider Panjutha, one of the leaders of the PTI party, called on Pakistan’s federal government to try imposing governor’s rule in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. According to him, such a move would only worsen the situation in the province, Dawn reports.

Panjutha said that PTI would not stop its political struggle until constitutional order and the rule of law are restored, political prisoners, including Imran Khan, are released, and the will of citizens is respected. He also claimed that threats, a state of emergency, governor’s rule, or political repression would not break the party’s resolve.

Proposal to leave parliament

PTI parliamentary leader Shahid Khattak questioned the expediency of working in a parliament that, according to him, is unable to guarantee the dignity and security of National Assembly members. He proposed that lawmakers resign their mandates and move the political struggle to the streets.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said on September 25 that consultations had been held on the possible imposition of governor’s rule in the province ahead of PTI’s planned protest march. The action was initially scheduled for September 27 but was later postponed to October 4.

Request regarding detained lawmakers

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati asked Provincial Police Chief Zulfiqar Hameed for information about lawmakers who had been arrested or detained. He also requested details about the residences of legislators where law enforcement agencies may have conducted raids, searches, attacks, or other actions during the previous two weeks.

Swati asked for a full report, copies of FIRs regarding such cases, and information on complaints filed with the relevant police stations to be submitted to the assembly secretariat. The request was made in accordance with Articles 66, 67, and 127 of Pakistan’s Constitution, the 2025 rules of procedure of the provincial assembly, and the 2026 law on its powers, immunities, and privileges.
