Reform UK spent more than £10,000 on social media advertising in Clacton

Reform UK and its leader Nigel Farage spent more than 10,000 pounds on social media ads during the campaign for the snap election in the British constituency of Clacton. Voting there began on August 13, according to The Guardian, citing an analysis by Politico.

Farage, who heads Reform UK, resigned his seat as the MP for Clacton in early July, triggering the by-election. According to Politico, Farage is the only candidate using Meta’s paid tools to support his online campaign.

The ads focused on two themes: Farage was portrayed as a defender of local residents’ interests and as a politician opposed by the establishment. The ads were distributed on Meta platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.

Nearly 1,000 pounds were spent on videos in which Farage urged supporters to request delivery and installation of a garden sign reading “I’m with Nigel.” Another 500 pounds or so was spent on ads urging people to return their mail-in ballots and send a message to the establishment.

The largest single expense—between 4,000 and 4,500 pounds—went toward a nearly five-minute campaign video. In it, Farage spoke about his connection with Clacton voters and claimed that his party’s success had allegedly prompted influential forces to use underhanded tactics against him.
