Russia has begun importing gasoline from India due to a fuel shortage — Bloomberg
Russia has begun importing gasoline from India in an effort to make up for a fuel shortage. According to Bloomberg, the shortage arose following a series of Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries, which disrupted fuel production and supplies to the domestic market.
The first shipment of Indian gasoline arrived in Russia on August 5. The supplier was Nayara Energy, a company in which Russia’s Rosneft holds a stake.
The fuel was transported by tankers linked to Russia via a transshipment point off the coast of Egypt.
Analysts note that these shipments, along with ongoing imports from Belarus and other neighboring countries, indicate a serious imbalance in the Russian gasoline market.
According to EA Analytics, in July, Russian refineries processed about 3.6 million barrels of crude oil per day—roughly one-third less than the seasonal average. Last week, Ukrainian strikes hit five oil refineries, and this week—at least two.
Due to domestic supply issues, Moscow has banned exports of gasoline and diesel fuel in an effort to secure its own market.
Shipments from India follow a complex route. According to Bloomberg, one of the Russian tankers loaded 42,000 metric tons of gasoline at the Indian refinery in Vadinar on June 18.
The cargo was subsequently transshipped to another vessel at the Egyptian port of Damietta, after which the gasoline was delivered to Russia.
Kpler has recorded several more similar shipments, which may indicate that the scheme to import Indian fuel into Russia is continuing, Bloomberg reports.
As a reminder, an oil refinery caught fire following an attack in Orsk.
Earlier, the General Staff confirmed a strike on the TANECO oil refinery in Tatarstan.
As a reminder, a gas station and a factory were damaged as a result of a Russian attack on the Poltava region.
In Dnipro on Friday, August 7, a World Health Organization humanitarian warehouse was destroyed as a result of an attack. There were no people on the premises at the time of the strike, and no casualties were reported.
Over the past 24 hours, the occupiers lost 1,130 troops and more than 400 pieces of military equipment.
In the Kherson region, one person was killed and two were wounded as a result of Russian shelling.
