Russia threatens devastating response in Baltic region

Russia, an aggressor state, said it would deliver a devastating response to any hostile actions against it in the Baltic region. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said this at a weekly briefing, Deutsche Welle reports.

Russian Foreign Ministry statement

According to Zakharova, if the military-political situation in the Baltic region escalates further, Moscow's response to the actions of the initiators of so-called anti-Russian adventures will be decisive and will have devastating consequences for them.

DW notes that it was not specified which events the representative of Russia's foreign policy agency had in mind. Earlier the same day, a fire broke out at the Russian Baltic port of Ust-Luga. According to the regional governor, it occurred after a drone attack.

Air threat near Latvia

Separately, NATO scrambled military aircraft over a possible air threat in Latvian airspace near the city of Ludza, located close to the Russian border.

The DW report does not establish a direct connection between Zakharova's statement, the fire in Ust-Luga, and NATO's decision to scramble aircraft.
