Russian billionaires want to keep lawsuits related to sanctions under wraps

The Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs has proposed classifying as confidential the lawsuits filed by Russian companies seeking compensation for losses resulting from international sanctions.

This was reported by Interfax.

The initiative was presented to the Russian authorities during the RSPP congress in March. The business association proposes not to publish court decisions in the public domain, as well as information about the parties to the proceedings, the subject of the dispute, and the nature of the claims in cases related to so-called counter-sanctions lawsuits.

According to the agency, Putin’s administration is already working on this idea together with relevant agencies, and the Russian Ministry of Justice has tentatively supported the proposal.

Since the start of the full-scale war, Russian companies have filed dozens of lawsuits in national courts, seeking to compensate for losses from sanctions or recover frozen assets.

One of the largest plaintiffs has been Gazprom, which has filed more than 20 lawsuits against former European clients. The total amount of claims is approximately 20 billion euros.

Earlier, the Moscow Arbitration Court awarded compensation to Transneft in a dispute with Euroclear and also upheld claims by Sberbank and the Central Bank of Russia regarding frozen assets.

Russia changed its polling methodology, and Putin’s approval rating immediately rose.

Putin began talking about “ending the war” due to serious problems on the home front and at the front lines.
