Romania is preparing for the possible shutdown of the second power unit at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant
In Romania, officials are warning of a potential forced shutdown of Power Unit No. 2 at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant due to falling water levels in the Danube River, according to Christian Bușoi, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy.
According to him, although the water level situation has improved somewhat, the effect is temporary, so the country must be prepared for the possibility of a short-term shutdown of the reactor. This could lead to the imposition of electricity consumption restrictions on large industrial consumers during peak hours; however, no restrictions are currently planned for residential consumers.
The government has already adopted a corresponding resolution on actions to be taken in crisis situations, and the system operator Transelectrica has approved a regulation regarding restrictions on industrial consumption.

As a reminder, record-low water levels in the Danube due to severe drought have exposed dozens of sunken German ships from World War II. On the Serbian-Romanian border, in the middle of the river on a sandbar that is usually submerged, fragments of the hull of one of the ships have become visible.
The drought in Europe has sharply lowered water levels in the Dniester Reservoir.
