Romania scrambled F-16 fighter jets in response to drones near the border with Ukraine

On Thursday evening, Romanian authorities issued an emergency alert for residents of the northern part of Tulcea County after drones were detected near the Ukrainian border. Two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled to monitor the situation.

According to the Romanian Ministry of Defense, at 9:12 p.m., two F-16 fighter jets took off from the 86th Air Brigade’s airbase in Borcha after radar systems detected a group of aerial targets near the river border with Ukraine.

Later, the Romanian Defense Ministry clarified that radars had detected intermittent signals from aerial objects, which were in Romanian airspace for about 20 seconds at approximately 9:14 p.m., after which they returned in the direction of Ukraine.

After detecting the aerial targets, the National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, which activated the emergency alert system for residents of the northern part of Tulcea County.

Residents were advised to take immediate shelter, as they were warned of the possible fall of objects from the airspace.

Romanian authorities also noted that residents of this area had already received a similar warning earlier that morning.

As a reminder, on Wednesday night, Poland scrambled military aircraft in response to a massive Russian missile and drone strike on Ukrainian territory. This was reported by the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.

A Ukrainian expert has traveled to Poland to assist in identifying the Russian missile that fell in the Lublin Voivodeship. Preliminary reports suggest it is an X-101 cruise missile.

Polish authorities did not warn residents of the missile threat.

In Poland, during the massive Russian missile attack on Ukraine on the night of July 29–30, an air raid alert was issued in part of the Lublin Voivodeship. After the attack ended, a crater approximately 10 meters in diameter and debris from an unidentified object were discovered in a field near the villages of Tarnava-Kolonia and Tokary.

Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz commented on the missile strike in the Lublin Voivodeship and stated that the country is very close to the war zone. According to him, hostilities are ongoing near Poland, but some people have already stopped taking this threat seriously.
