Scammers are creating fake websites for streaming "The Odyssey" online
Scammers are capitalizing on interest in the movie *The Odyssey* by creating fake streaming sites that purport to offer free online viewing of the film. Visitors to these sites may be tricked into providing personal and banking information, as well as being exposed to phishing attempts and malware infections, according to The Guardian World.
According to the publication, these fake platforms may be advertised via pop-up ads; they also appear in search results or are accessible via links from other websites. To make them seem more credible, the pages feature fake reviews and ratings from people who have supposedly already watched the movie.
Cybersecurity firm Kaspersky notes that some sites promise dubbed versions of the movie in the user’s language. The language of the offer may be selected based on the visitor’s geolocation. When attempting to play the video, users are prompted to register—ostensibly to unlock the free content—by providing their email address and full name.

Later, the site may request banking information, claiming it is needed to activate a trial period. Such sites also claim to offer unlimited access to content on multiple devices, even though there is no version of the movie available to watch there.
The British campaign BeStreamWise, which warns about the dangers of illegal streaming, emphasized that cybercriminals are exploiting the hype surrounding major premieres to steal personal information. They also warned that people who have shared their data may once again become targets of scammers or lose money from their accounts.
Kaspersky analyst Olga Altukhova advised using only official services, especially if an unfamiliar platform is offering a movie that is still playing in theaters. Users are advised to check the website address before entering any information. If someone believes they have been the victim of fraud, they are advised to immediately notify their bank, change passwords for important accounts, and enable multi-factor authentication.
