Sean Penn Criticized Trump Over the USAID Decision
American actor and director Sean Penn spoke out sharply against the policies of the Donald Trump administration, specifically the decision to suspend the operations of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Penn called the consequences of this move “negligent homicide” and stated that American society is living in a state of denial, believing itself to be protected from the serious consequences of such decisions. USAID, in particular, has funded numerous projects in Ukraine.
The actor is currently working on a documentary titled “Black Sunflowers” about Ukrainian youth and military personnel. He wants Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump to watch the film. According to Penn, his goal is not to attack the president, but to use the stories of Ukrainians to show the realities of war and make viewers reflect.
Separately, the actor stated that he does not expect the war in Ukraine to end soon. In his opinion, the fighting will cease only when Vladimir Putin stops it himself or when Russia is forced to do so by force.
Penn also noted that the Ukrainian soldiers he spoke with do not expect the war to end soon. Some of them view the situation as if they might be fighting for the rest of their lives.
The film *Black Sunflowers* tells the story of Ukrainian youth trying to navigate life between the front lines and civilian life.
