Xi Jinping assured Lukashenko of his support amid pressure from Ukraine and Russia
Following coordinated pressure from Ukraine and Russia, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko made an emergency visit to Beijing, where he received official assurances of support from Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
The Chinese leader publicly announced that his country fully supports Minsk in defending its national interests amid regional instability.
Finding himself—at least figuratively speaking—caught in the crossfire between neighbors at war with one another, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko rushed to Beijing for support.
During official talks, Chinese President Xi Jinping told him that “China supports Belarus in ensuring its national sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.”
This statement came at a time when the Belarusian regime is caught between the Kremlin’s demands and security ultimatums from Kyiv.
The visit to China took place immediately after Minsk was forced to make significant tactical concessions under direct pressure from the Ukrainian leadership.
The trip to Beijing took place after Lukashenko was forced, at the request of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, to shut down the relay stations installed in Belarus that were helping the Russian army to launch drone strikes against Ukraine.
This move caused significant discontent within the Russian Federation, which had been using Belarusian infrastructure to wage war.
This was officially reported by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to the Reuters news agency.
