The U.S. has threatened Canada with new trade restrictions – Bloomberg
Canada must lift its retaliatory trade measures against U.S. goods to avoid new tariffs from the White House, which are set to take effect next week. This was stated by U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer.
The U.S. wants Canadian provinces to lift bans on the sale of American alcohol, which were imposed last year after U.S. President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on steel, aluminum, and automobiles. Greer also pointed to Canadian “protectionism” in the dairy sector and government procurement rules as issues that need to be resolved, noting that any potential solution must address all these issues or provide a path to resolving them.
Greer described the recent trade negotiations between the two countries as “constructive.” He emphasized that for the U.S., this is not a trade war but an attempt to protect and support domestic supply chains, and that Washington will not tolerate retaliatory measures from any country and will take action if they occur.

Twenty-five U.S. states have filed a lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s administration, challenging the imposition of new import duties. The plaintiffs argue that these restrictions effectively replaced the tariffs that the Supreme Court struck down in February.
