US urges citizens to reconsider travel to Middle East — Anadolu Agency

The US Department of State has urged Americans who are outside the Middle East to seriously reconsider plans to travel to or transit through the region. The department explained the recommendation by citing the difficult security situation and the possibility of unpredictable escalation.

Risk of disruptions to air travel

Americans already in the Middle East were advised to remain especially vigilant and prepare for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures, and other travel disruptions. Those traveling to or leaving the region were advised to monitor information from airports and airlines.

As Anadolu Agency reports, the State Department said that Iran-backed Houthis are conducting hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including carrying out attacks related to civilian airports. The department stressed that the conflict could escalate rapidly.

Warning for US facilities

The State Department also said that US diplomatic facilities, including those outside the Middle East, have been targets of attacks. According to the department’s assessment, Iran and groups it supports may target other US interests abroad, as well as places associated with the United States and Americans around the world, including US companies and other institutions.
