Larnaca court adjourns hearing in criminal organisation case
The Larnaca Assize Court in Cyprus adjourned until November 23 the hearing in a case concerning a criminal organisation after prosecutors substantially amended the indictment. This was reported by Cyprus Mail.
Preventive measures for the defendants
At a previous hearing, the court released on bail a 42-year-old man and two 29-year-old men, agreeing with the defence's objections to their continued detention. The 42-year-old defendant is accused of money laundering and participation in a criminal organisation. The two 29-year-old men were also charged with aiding and abetting money laundering.
A 22-year-old officer of the SYOP police special unit remains in custody. He is separately standing trial on charges of attempted murder of a prominent businessman. Earlier, a 32-year-old man was acquitted in the proceedings due to insufficient testimony.

Searches and seizures
The suspects were detained on January 22 during a police operation conducted in Larnaca and the central prisons. During searches of residences, authorities seized €1,050 in cash, valuables of undetermined value, mobile phones, two bulletproof vests, two pistols and a baseball bat. Law enforcement officers also seized two cars and handed them over to the Larnaca traffic police for further examination.
A firearm was found in one of the residences. Following checks, it was established that one of the 29-year-old men did not have a licence to acquire or possess it, which led to his detention. The investigation is being conducted by the Larnaca criminal police as part of cases involving organised criminal activity in the district.
