Trump criticizes Macron over France's refusal to participate in the mission in the Strait of Hormuz

The U.S. president, however, expressed dissatisfaction and hinted at upcoming political changes in France, CNN reports.
U.S. President Donald Trump reacted sharply to French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement that France would not join the international mission to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz. During a meeting of the French Defense Council, Macron said: “We are not a party to the conflict, and therefore France will never participate in operations to open or liberate the Strait of Hormuz in the current context.”
When asked by a reporter at the White House, Trump replied: “Well, he’ll be leaving office soon. We’ll see. I don’t know.” The next presidential election in France is scheduled for April 2027.
Trump has repeatedly criticized U.S. allies who have refused to send military ships to escort tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. He noted that after decades of receiving security support, allies are showing insufficient loyalty to the U.S.
According to the American leader, ensuring freedom of navigation in the strait is strategically important, and he expects more active participation from allies. “We’ve supported them for decades, and when the time comes to help us, they don’t want to,” Trump emphasized.
Additionally, France will not intervene in the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
