Trump Faces a Choice Between a Ceasefire and a Major War with Iran — Axios
U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to decide on his next strategy regarding the war with Iran in the coming days. The White House is considering two main options: to support a 10-day ceasefire or to launch a large-scale military operation in conjunction with Israel to increase pressure on Tehran.
According to Axios, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, and other mediators have conveyed a proposal to the U.S. and Iran to implement a 10-day ceasefire. The Trump administration is reviewing this initiative and has called on Israel to refrain from actions that could derail diplomatic efforts.
The proposed ceasefire, as envisioned by the mediators, is intended to halt hostilities, restore shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and create conditions for preserving the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.
However, Washington is simultaneously preparing for a possible failure of the negotiations. According to sources, the U.S. has already deployed dozens of fighter jets and refueling aircraft to the region, establishing a force sufficient for a significant escalation of the conflict. At the same time, the Israel Defense Forces are on high alert and preparing for a possible expansion of hostilities.
A senior U.S. official stated that negotiations are ongoing, but Donald Trump does not yet consider the campaign of retaliatory strikes to be over. According to him, the U.S. president intends to continue military pressure on Iran—particularly in response to the deaths of American service members in Jordan—until he decides otherwise.
Earlier, the United States reported the deaths of two of its soldiers and the disappearance of another following Iran’s strike on a U.S. facility in Jordan.
