Trump rules out appointing Bessent as AI czar — The Hill
In the United States, President Donald Trump said that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will not take the position of artificial intelligence czar that his administration plans to create. Trump wrote this on Truth Social amid media reports about Bessent's possible appointment, The Hill reports.
Bessent will remain at the Treasury Department
Trump called the role the position of “superintelligence czar.” He had previously proposed calling artificial intelligence “superintelligence,” or SI. According to the president, Bessent does not want to take the position, while Trump wants to keep him at the Treasury Department because of the work he is doing there.
The president also called reports of a possible change in Bessent's position false. Earlier, several media outlets wrote that his candidacy could be considered for the role, the creation of which Trump announced the previous week to oversee the development of artificial intelligence technologies.

Plans for the new structure
According to Trump, the new czar will likely help manage the proposed “AI Force.” He compared this structure to the U.S. Space Force, created during his first presidential term, but did not explain exactly how the new organization would operate.
Bessent has spoken actively this year on AI policy, supporting U.S. competitiveness while also stressing the need for safeguards because of cybersecurity risks. He also took part in U.S. negotiations with China on artificial intelligence technologies and publicly discussed the U.S. proposal to create a notification system between Washington and Beijing.
Previously, the position of AI and cryptocurrency czar in the Trump administration was held by venture investor David Sacks. He left the White House after completing his term as a special government employee but continues to co-chair the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. At the time of publication, it was not known whom Trump was seriously considering for the new position.
