Trump commented on possible negotiations between Ukraine and Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that, in his opinion, the presidents of Ukraine and Russia want to reach an agreement to end the war. He made this statement before the start of his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Trump also said that he regularly receives photographs from the war in Ukraine, but admitted that he finds it difficult to look at these images.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he believes an agreement between Ukraine and Russia to end the war is possible. He made these remarks during the public portion of his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ahead of the NATO summit. According to the U.S. leader, both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin are reportedly interested in reaching a peace agreement. “Both Putin and Zelenskyy want to reach an agreement. It’s a shame it’s taken so long. I think something will come of it,” Trump said.

At the same time, the U.S. president said that he regularly receives photos from the combat zone in Ukraine. According to him, these images are so harrowing that he has asked that they no longer be sent to him. “They send me photos. I really want to say, ‘Don’t send them to me,’” he said.

Trump clarified that he receives some of this material from U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hagset. The U.S. president added that it is very distressing for him to see the consequences of the war. Meanwhile, U.S. media outlets report that Donald Trump arrived at the NATO summit in a less-than-ideal mood. According to CNN, some U.S. officials are not confident that the allies’ meeting in Ankara will proceed without complications.

Earlier, Trump also said that he wasn’t particularly eager to attend the summit, but decided to participate because the event is taking place in Turkey with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, whom he calls his friend. Despite his optimistic assessment of the prospects for negotiations, Trump did not provide any details or facts that would indicate the start of a new negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia. His remarks constituted a political assessment of the situation, made on the eve of important talks among NATO allies. U.S. President Donald Trump made this statement during the public portion of his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that during his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at the NATO summit, the main focus will be on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense.
