Trump has set a deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to Iran’s leadership, demanding that the Strait of Hormuz be reopened by 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday Eastern Time (3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, Kyiv time).

This was reported by Trump’s Truth Social channel and in an interview with the American leader for The Wall Street Journal. If the conditions are not met, Trump promised to destroy all power plants, bridges, and industrial facilities throughout the country.

According to the U.S. president, if Tehran does not agree to the deal by the specified deadline, it will take Iran at least 20 years to rebuild its infrastructure. Trump emphasized Washington’s strong position and added that he is not concerned about the possible consequences for the country’s 93 million people, as he believes that Iranians themselves are seeking change due to their difficult living conditions. Earlier, Axios reported on possible separate negotiations between the U.S. and Iran regarding a ceasefire without Israel’s participation.

The situation in the region remains critical due to the blockade of the strait, which threatens global energy security. While Russia watches the escalation in the Middle East, the American leader is preparing for decisive action in the event of a diplomatic failure. Meanwhile, in Ukraine, border guards continue to destroy Russian military equipment, and Ukrenergo reports that the power grid is operating stably despite Trump’s threats regarding Iranian power plants. The U.S. president is also expected to unveil his plan for ending hostilities in the region in the near future.

Prior to this, Trump issued an ultimatum to Iran’s leadership demanding that the Strait of Hormuz be unblocked by Tuesday, April 7

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that an agreement with Iran could be reached as early as April 6, 2026, warning of the complete destruction of critical infrastructure should negotiations fail.
