Trump considers the war with Iran to be effectively over

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the military operation against the Iranian regime is in its final stages or has already been completed.

During a conversation with Fox News journalist Maria Bartiromo, the American leader repeatedly used the past tense when discussing military operations in the region.

According to Bartiromo, while discussing economic issues and NATO, the U.S. president emphasized that the active phase of the conflict is now behind us.

“I just spoke with the president. He talked a lot about the economy, the war with Iran, and NATO. I’ll quote one of his statements separately. I told him, ‘You keep talking about this war as if it’s already in the past. Is it over?’ He replied, ‘It’s over,’ the journalist shared details of the conversation.

Despite such a categorical statement in a private conversation, in the interview itself, the U.S. president spoke somewhat more cautiously, noting that the end was near.

He emphasized that the destruction in Iran is so extensive that the country will need decades to recover.

“I believe the war is nearing its end. In my view, it’s very close to the end. If I were to turn things around right now, it would take them 20 years to rebuild this country. And we’re not done yet. We’ll see what happens,” the U.S. president noted in a video clip of the conversation.

The U.S. president also hinted that the Iranian side is currently extremely interested in reaching a diplomatic agreement.

This is confirmed by reports of a possible resumption of direct talks between Washington and Tehran on Pakistani soil in the coming days.

Trump claims he received a call from Iran offering a deal

As a reminder, the U.S. is undertaking mine clearance in the Strait of Hormuz.

Additionally, the United Kingdom plans to hold a new round of talks with allies regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, which remains a key route for global energy. Representatives from dozens of countries will participate in the meeting, though the level of delegations will be lower than before.

Negotiations between the U.S. and Iran have begun to move forward. Tehran stated that Washington had allegedly agreed to unfreeze a portion of Iranian assets, but there has been no official confirmation from the American side yet.

Iran is unable to quickly restore safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz due to the problem of minefields in the waterway and the lack of technical means to completely clear them.
