Tusk announced the construction of a high-speed railway in Poland
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the launch of the Integrated Railway Network (ZSK) project, which calls for the construction of high-speed and conventional rail lines throughout the country. He made the announcement at a press conference at the Warsaw-West train station, according to “European Truth,” citing RMF 24.
As part of the project, plans call for the construction of 2,700 kilometers of track for high-speed rail and over 2,000 kilometers of conventional rail lines. An additional 5,600 kilometers of existing rail lines are to be modernized.
According to Tusk, trains on high-speed lines will be able to reach speeds of up to 350 km/h. He also stated that every county in Poland is planned to be included in the intercity rail network.
The prime minister stated that Poland aims to have the fastest railway in Europe. The plan calls for the ability to travel from Warsaw to all major metropolitan areas in 100 minutes, and to cross the country from west to east or from north to south in a maximum of three hours.
“We will ensure that rail travel becomes the most popular mode of transportation for Poles. This means that once we complete this major ZSK project, we should be transporting nearly 800 million passengers here in Poland each year,” Tusk said.
According to the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure, the entire ZSK project is scheduled for completion between 2050 and 2060. The total investment is estimated at approximately 610 billion zlotys, or 140.9 billion euros. Of this amount, 410 billion zlotys are planned to be allocated to the construction of new railway lines, and another 200 billion zlotys to the modernization of existing ones.
