A suspect accused of spying for Russia has been detained in France

French law enforcement officials have detained a 48-year-old native of Belarus who is suspected of passing information to Russia about the production of drones for the French and Ukrainian armies.

According to investigators, the man was detained on June 3 near the Delair facility outside Toulouse while filming a drone prototype. The investigation found that he allegedly sent video footage to a contact in Russia.

Following his arrest, the Paris prosecutor’s office opened a case on suspicion of undermining the fundamental interests of the state. He is charged with passing information to a foreign state, a crime punishable by up to 15 years in prison in France.

According to investigators, the suspect was residing in Spain, and his target was the production facilities of Delair, a company that supplies drones to the French army and Ukraine.
