Ghana cancels exam results of 8,295 candidates — MyJoyOnline
In Ghana, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) cancelled subject-specific or all examination results of 8,295 participants in the 2026 WASSCE session following an investigation into irregularities. MyJoyOnline reports.
Reasons for the cancellations
The subject-specific results of 7,434 candidates were cancelled for bringing unauthorized materials into examination halls. These included, in particular, pre-prepared notes, textbooks and printed materials.
The full results of another 861 candidates were cancelled due to the presence of mobile phones in examination halls. The decision was made after the findings of the investigations were reviewed at the 42nd meeting of the Ghana Examinations Committee on August 7, 2026.

Results whose release was suspended
WAEC also suspended the release of subject-specific results for 957 candidates and full results for another 270 participants over various suspected irregularities. Separately, the council reported suspending the release of some subject-specific results of candidates from 169 schools due to suspicions of possible collusion.
These cases are still under investigation. According to WAEC, depending on the outcome of the review, such results may be released or cancelled. The investigations are planned to be completed by October 30, 2026.
Candidates whose results were cancelled or whose release was suspended were advised to use the council's violations and investigations review platform to learn the grounds for the decision and the next steps. WAEC also warned participants and stakeholders about fraudsters offering, for a fee, to improve examination results.
