Police station in Kwame-Danso, Ghana reopens after nearly a year of closure — MyJoyOnline

In Kwame-Danso, Ghana, the district police station has officially resumed operations after being closed nearly a year ago following a mob attack on the district court and the station itself. Court service staff also stopped providing services at the court, citing security threats.

As MyJoyOnline reports, on December 10, 2025, about 100 young people stormed the district court, disrupted hearings, damaged property and forcibly freed suspects who were being held in custody. The mob then attacked the police station.

Consequences of the closure

Following the attack, the Inspector-General of Police closed the station for an indefinite period. According to the outlet, during this time, residents of the area had nowhere to report crimes and were forced to settle disputes on their own.

Khaari District Chief Executive Fuseini apologized during the reopening ceremony for the events that led to the station's closure and said this must not happen again.

Call for cooperation

Regional Police Commander Shaibu Sadik-Osei described the attack as a difficult day for the district's law enforcement system. He said police were returning to maintain law and order and called on residents to cooperate with law enforcement officers.

Regional Minister Francis Owusu Antwi stressed the importance of security for community development. Omanhene of the Dwan Traditional Council Okoforbur Awase Afura III said traditional leaders had held meetings with young people to prevent renewed violence.

It is expected that court hearings in the district will also resume after the police station reopens. However, a date for the court's reopening has not yet been announced.
