Ghana proposes mechanisms to attract investment to the Volta Region — MyJoyOnline

In Ho, the administrative centre of Ghana’s Volta Region, the lead organiser of the Volta Economic Forum, Dr Elikplim K. Apetorgbor, announced a shift from presenting the region’s economic potential to implementing investment projects. The theme of the second forum in 2026 was “From Showcasing Opportunities to Delivering Investments.”

Potential and initial results

As MyJoyOnline reports, Apetorgbor said that the forum’s theme is intended to mark a transition from showcasing opportunities to concluding deals. According to him, the region has potential in agriculture and agro-processing, tourism, fisheries and aquaculture, energy, transport and logistics, manufacturing, and infrastructure.

At the same time, he stressed that resources and opportunities alone are insufficient for economic transformation. According to Apetorgbor, this requires capital, bankable projects, effective institutions, strategic partnerships and consistent implementation of plans.

The first forum, held in Anloga in 2025, focused on presenting the region’s opportunities. Among examples of emerging successes, Apetorgbor cited the Zonda showroom in Ho, a 500-acre sisal cultivation project in the Akatsi North District, aquaculture development in Keta, interest in white clay in Kpando for ceramic production, and the Zen Palms Beach Resort & SPA in Keta.

Proposed mechanisms

To consolidate the results, Apetorgbor proposed establishing a Volta Region Development Advisory Council, a multidisciplinary body for strategic recommendations and the preparation of a well-founded regional development strategy. The proposed 29-member council is to be chaired by Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State.

The second proposal was the Volta Economic Embassy initiative through Ghana’s diplomatic missions. Such a platform is intended to promote the region among investors, identify credible investors and present financially viable projects from all municipalities and districts.

Volta Regional Minister James Gunu stated that the region seeks to develop partnerships and create conditions to attract local and international investment. The forum was chaired by Togbe Afede XIV and attended by representatives of industry, investors and development partners.
