Ghanaian journalist Kwasi Pratt to receive honorary doctorate — MyJoyOnline
In Ghana, the University of Cape Coast has decided to award veteran journalist Kwasi Pratt Jr. an honorary Doctor of Letters degree. The Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, called it recognition the journalist had long deserved, MyJoyOnline reports.
MP's reaction
In a post on X published on Saturday, September 19, Dafeamekpor said he was speaking not as an official, but as Pratt's younger brother, comrade and student. According to him, the university had formally recognized qualities that Ghanaians had seen throughout five decades of the journalist's work.
The MP described Pratt's newsroom as his “lecture hall,” the daily problems of ordinary Ghanaians as his “library,” and the defense of social justice as the main work of his life. He said the honorary degree was a historic and deserved recognition of Pratt's many years of journalistic, activist and public work.

Journalism and public activity
Dafeamekpor noted Pratt's consistency in Ghana's public life, mentioning his activism in the 1970s as well as his involvement in grassroots organizations and political education in the 1980s. He also said that the journalist had remained committed to his principles during the period of the Fourth Republic, despite changes in the country's political life.
Separately, the MP praised Pratt's work as head of The Insight newspaper. In his view, the journalist helped citizens understand how economic and legal decisions affect everyday life, including by explaining issues related to IMF conditions, land legislation and the rights of communities in mining areas.
Dafeamekpor also called Pratt a leading figure in Ghana's Committee for Joint Action, socialist and Pan-African movement. He urged the journalist to continue writing, teaching and inspiring future generations.
