Two Palestinians abducted in Gaza — Asharq Al-Awsat

In the central part of the Gaza Strip, armed groups abducted two Palestinians from a house east of the Bureij refugee camp. As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, the abduction took place at dawn on Thursday. The abducted men are cousins from the Issa family; according to the publication's field sources, one of them belongs to an influential Palestinian faction.

The men's relatives appealed to the Red Cross, asking it to contact Israel and determine their fate. The publication notes that in previous cases, armed groups that abducted Palestinians in Gaza handed them over to Israel. Some of these people were later released after it was determined that they had no ties to Palestinian factions.

Traces of blood at the abduction site

Field sources reported that the men were taken from a house located more than 800 meters from the boundary of the so-called yellow line. According to them, traces of blood were found at the abduction site. The sources suggested that the abducted men may have been wounded or subjected to interrogations involving torture. They also stated that some property disappeared from the house.

Sources for Asharq Al-Awsat claim that the operation took place under cover of Israeli drones, which opened fire in different directions. According to them, armed groups have recently intensified attempts to abduct members of Palestinian factions living about one kilometer from the yellow line and hand them over to Israel.

Other reports of attempted abductions

Another source for the publication spoke of an attempt to abduct a member of another Palestinian faction in the Nuseirat refugee camp about a week earlier. According to the source, the man escaped from the vehicle in which he was being held, but sustained moderately severe injuries.

On September 4, the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, said that an armed group had attempted to abduct one of its fighters on Al-Jumayza Street in the town of Al-Qarara, northeast of Khan Younis. The group claimed that the attackers acted with the support of Israeli drones, and that several members of this group were killed or wounded during the clashes.
