An ambulance, damaged by Russian shelling, was displayed in Lisbon
A Ukrainian ambulance damaged by Russian shelling has been displayed outside the Russian Embassy in Lisbon. Through this initiative, the organizers aim to highlight the consequences of the war in Ukraine and draw attention to a fundraiser for medical vehicles for Ukrainian troops.
The ambulance arrived in Lisbon as part of an exhibition highlighting the consequences of Russian aggression against Ukraine. The vehicle came under fire in 2022 during a rescue operation in Kharkiv. Medical personnel responded to a call regarding an injured woman, and as they entered the building, the ambulance came under fire. No one was injured, but the vehicle sustained extensive damage.
The event in Portugal was organized by “ORANTA,” the Association for the Support of the Ukrainian Community in Portugal. Its president, Roman Hrymalyuk, emphasized that the battered ambulance is a vivid testament to the reality of war.
“This isn’t a movie. It’s reality unfolding in Europe,” he noted.
The exhibition has been touring Europe since 2023. In Lisbon, the vehicle was placed just a few meters from the Russian embassy. Alongside it, photographs and paintings dedicated to the war in Ukraine are on display.
The event is also part of the “Ukraine is Calling” campaign, aimed at raising funds to purchase more than 100 medical vehicles for Ukraine.
It is noted that the ORANTA association has been assisting Ukraine since 2022 and has already donated 31 medical and rescue vehicles. The organization collaborates with municipalities and fire departments in Portugal, obtaining vehicles that are no longer in use in the country, repairing them, and sending them to Ukraine.
