WTA 500 tournament featuring Marta Kostyuk begins in Mexico
The Guadalajara Open, a WTA 500 tournament featuring Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk, is taking place in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, from September 13 to 19. The competition at the Centro Panamericano de Tenis courts in Metropolitan Park has a prize fund of $1.2 million, while the singles champion will receive $185,500.
As Mexico News Daily reports, Kostyuk, who is ranked 11th in the world, is returning to the Guadalajara Open for the first time since 2023. She reached the second round then. This season, the Ukrainian played in the Wimbledon and Roland Garros semifinals and won two titles on clay courts in the spring.
Participants and tickets
Confirmed participants also include the world No. 14 and defending tournament champion, American Iva Jovic. Latin American tennis will be represented by Colombia's Camila Osorio and Mexico's top-ranked player Renata Zarazua. The players will compete in singles and doubles. Prices for individual tickets start at 866 Mexican pesos, excluding fees.

Film festival and support for migrants
MUBI Fest Guadalajara will take place at FICG Cineteca in Zapopan from September 18 to 20. The program includes screenings of independent feature and short films, talks with filmmakers, master classes, installations and DJ sets. The announced films include Nicolas Winding Refn's “Her Private Hell,” Garth Jennings' “Pulp: What Do You Do for an Encore?,” Na Hong-jin's “Hope: The First Impact” and Ridley Scott's “Thelma & Louise.”
On September 27, Casa Zuno in Guadalajara will host the charity event “Many Journeys. One Community” for World Migrants Day. It is organized by the Rhizome Center, which provides legal assistance, crisis support and consultations to deported people and refugees in Mexico. The program includes food from 15 migrant cuisines, music and meetings with artists. Admission costs 375 pesos, while a VIP ticket costs 500 pesos.
In addition, Aeroméxico plans to launch direct flights between Guadalajara and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport three times a week starting on April 13, 2027.
